Lyles-Crouch Student Andras Will Get The Answer From Space
Andras Jacobson is a Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy second-grader. He is one of just a handful of children from across the United States about to get the chance to quiz their heroes. On Dec. 3, during a NASA live streaming event, a question he submitted as part of a nationwide competition is expected to be answered by astronaut Victor Glover broadcasting from the International Space Station, 240 miles above the earth. Emmy Squared To Open In Old Town Alexandria
Emmy Squared, a Detroit-style pizza and burger joint, is going to open at 124 King St. in Old Town Alexandria. The restaurant co-owner Howard Greenstone confirmed this on Thursday. He hopes to open in the spring or summer 2021, filling the 3,378-square-foot space with roughly 52 seats at tables and another 43 at the bar. Alexandria City Council Mandates Face Coverings Starting October
According to a new ordinance approved by the Alexandria City Council, face coverings will be mandatory in indoor and outdoor public settings in the Virginia city starting October. Alexandria’s new mask ordinance takes effect Oct. 1 and applies to anyone in a public space over the age of 10. ACPS To Hold Online Classes For Fall 2020
ACPS announced on July 31 that the Alexandria City Public Schools students will be attending classes entirely online for the start of the fall 2020 school year. Similar to neighboring school districts, ACPS’ Virtual Plus+ program will involve daily live instruction streamed via Zoom, virtual one-on-one, and group tutoring sessions, and some asynchronous learning opportunities. The 2020 class of 40 Under 40 honorees has been announced by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. This is the fifth class of honorees in the program. The 40 under 40 program was established in 2016 to recognize individuals under the age of 40 who are outstanding in their fields and shaping the future of the city. Sacred Celebrations of Faith To Go Virtual Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and stay-at-home orders in place across the state, some of the world’s most sacred celebrations of faith will move online. Jewish seder meals will be conducted via Zoom, Christian Holy Week services will be live-streamed and many Muslims will break their daily Ramadan fasts alone. Jack Moline, Agudus Achim Congregation Rabbi Emeritus said, “Wednesday night I will conduct both the smallest and largest seder of my life. Generally, we have 30 or so people at our table.
